About Hijos de Rivera

Hijos de Rivera is a historic Spanish brewery with a rich heritage dating back to its founding in 1906 by José María Rivera Corral. The brewery is located in La Coruña, a coastal city in the northwest region of Galicia. For over a century, the family-owned company has been dedicated to producing exceptional beer, guided by its core values of quality, independence, and a commitment to Galician culture.

In the early days, José María Rivera Corral returned to Spain after spending time in Mexico and Cuba, where the thriving brewing industry inspired him. Upon his return, he established La Estrella de Galicia (The Star of Galicia) as a modest brewery, producing its first beer, Estrella de Galicia, in 1906. The brewery soon gained a strong following thanks to its products’ high quality and dedication to traditional Galician brewing methods.

Over the years, the Rivera family continued to develop and expand the business, consistently investing in the latest brewing technology while remaining true to their Galician heritage. This unwavering commitment to quality and innovation has led to the creation of a diverse range of beers, including the flagship Estrella Galicia Lager, Estrella Galicia 0.0% (non-alcoholic), and the 1906 Reserva Especial, among others.

Today, Hijos de Rivera is one of Spain’s most prestigious breweries, with its products enjoyed nationally and internationally. The company remains firmly rooted in its Galician origins and is proud to share its passion for beer with the world while constantly looking to the future and embracing new brewing techniques and styles.
