About Leffe

Leffe Logo

The history of Leffe dates back to the year 1152 in the quaint, scenic town of Dinant, Belgium. Here, the Norbertine monks of the Leffe Abbey sought peace and tranquility, devoting themselves to prayer, reflection, and the pursuit of knowledge. It was within the confines of this historic Abbey that the monks embarked on a journey of exploration and innovation, mastering the craft of brewing.

Utilizing their understanding of herbs and natural components, the monks of Leffe Abbey concocted their initial brew in 1240. Their concoctions were crafted not only to nourish their own community but also to bring delight and sustenance to weary travelers seeking shelter. The distinct, rich flavor of Leffe quickly gained acclaim throughout the region, and the Abbey’s reputation for exceptional brewing flourished with each passing year.

Regrettably, the Abbey endured the ravages of war, natural calamities, and changing times, leading to the suspension of brewing operations on several occasions. However, the spirit of Leffe endured, and the dedicated monks always found a way to revive their beloved brew. In 1952, a partnership was forged between the Abbey and the Lootvoet brewery, ensuring the perpetuation of the Leffe tradition.

Today, Leffe is esteemed globally for its complex, rich flavors and its unwavering dedication to quality and heritage. The Leffe selection has expanded to encompass a range of styles, from the iconic Leffe Blonde to the robust Leffe Brune, and even an alcohol-free option, guaranteeing that the legacy of the Leffe Abbey lives on in every glass.
